Being crowned HGTV’s first-ever Design Star All Stars winner hasn’t gone to Leslie Ezelle’s head. This nationally acclaimed interior designer, TV personality, cancer-survivor and mom of six keeps herself busy incorporating simplicity, structure and function into her projects and her life."I am loving white on cream, light grey on light taupe and white on white."
We sat down with Leslie to ask her a few questions about design, life, and tire tables. Read on to learn more about this design star – and be sure to catch her presentation on the main stage at the Great Big Texas Home Show at Cowboys Stadium, March 8-10, 2013!

What design trend or item are you coveting this season?
”Trend??” “Item??” I have WAY too many favorites to choose just one! But, my most favorite piece in my home is my coffee table from Montauk Sofa, the tire table from Design Star Season 6. I loved it so much that I ordered it from NYC, and had it shipped all the way to Dallas!
Trends: I am loving white on cream, light grey on light taupe and white on white. I’m obsessed with lots of layers of cool textures and geometric patterns. I have been sticking to very little color unless it is an orchid or fresh flowers.
What was the last item you bought or coveted for your home?
Again, by far, my black tire coffee table along with my new, 72-inch metal top round table for my breakfast area. I hung an industrial globe light fixture that I made for only $75 and, to quote my idol, Martha..."That is a good thing."
What is your favorite room in your home and why?
My living room: it is big, light, white on white, and, most importantly, I have an entire wall made of glass!
If you weren’t in your current occupation, what would be your dream job?
My own national TV show to share all my design ideas, and my wild and crazy life! Oh yeah, and a couple of New York Times Best-sellers would be amazing.

What is the first website you visit in the morning?
Every morning is a brand new adventure. I am lucky to get a few emails answered in-between slinging paintbrushes, taking kids to school, working on various design projects, and preparing the next meal for the troops.
What’s your personal mantra?
“Get Busy Living.” If you are feeling depressed, discouraged, or beaten down, all I can say is get up and get moving. Work on a project, a room, an errand, or clear out your junk drawer. Do anything to keep your hands busy! This will -- and I do swear by this -- this will help you to feel better, no matter what you are going though. As my Daddy always said, “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.” So get busy living, and you will feel better… and I guess, avoid the devil, which is always a good thing.
Describe this Home Show in one word.
One-Hell-u-v-a-goodtime… is that one word??
