Source Media Group: Alberta’s best source for new home & lifestyle info!

Business partners Richard MacQuarrie and Norma Robertson used to sell ads for the competition – lots of them. Then, one day, it hit them: “We could do this for ourselves.” And so they did. This year, their company, Source Media Group, celebrates its tenth anniversary.

Chances are, if you've ever been looking for a new home or condominium, that you've seen one of their publications, New Home Living or Condo Living magazines.  In fact, even if you haven’t been actively searching for a new home you've probably seen them around, because they’re distributed at more than 1,500 locations in Calgary and area – the most of any local magazine. And they’re the one and only locally owned and operated new homes and condos magazine publisher.

Richard and Norma started out with two titles and two employees, working out of Norma’s basement in Cranston until the company grew out of it and “I got tired of having my refrigerator raided by the employees,” laughs Norma.  Now they publish a total of nine regularly scheduled titles, three monthlies and six quarterlies, for more than 60 magazines per year, as well as the occasional custom publication. Head office is still in Calgary, but employees are spread everywhere, with publications in Calgary, Okotoks, Red Deer and Edmonton. They’re one of the ten largest magazine publishers in the province, with 15 full time and five part time staff,  and are active members in the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association. 

In Calgary, 25,000 copies of Condo Living and New Home Living are distributed every month with a pick-up rate of about 90 per cent. Readership is slightly skewed towards women and heavily skewed to people who are seriously shopping for somewhere to live. Readers of these magazines are looking for information and Condo Living and New Home Living are the number one source for that information. 


Editor Pepper Rodriguez is THE MAN when it comes to the local home building industry and he fills our mags with better stories and photos than any similar publication. 

Recently, Source Media Group has added another thoroughbred to the stable in DOMUS, a high-end coffee table style magazine focused on $1 million-plus homes only. DOMUS raises the bar even higher for all those magazines who dare to follow.Source Media Group has been involved with the Home + Design Show and the spring Home + Garden Show for several years now, both with a booth and as a design feature sponsor. Two of our regular columnists, Aly Velji in Calgary and Rosalyn Lazaruk in Edmonton, are regular presenters at the shows.
