BUFFALO HOME SHOW, BUFFALO NIAGARA CONVENTION CENTER, GERMANY, JUDI LAIRD, JUDI LAIRD GERMAN DESIGN No comments
Judi
Laird has been doing interior design work for over 40 years. Her company, Judi
Laird German Design, brings a little bit of Germany to your home through
beautiful hand sewn lace curtains and drapery fabrics. Laird uses color
psychology, the mood color creates and how it affects people, to help others
better decorate their homes. She will be speaking at the Buffalo Home Show at
noon on March 8th and 9th.
Judi
was nice enough to preview her presentation
by answering a few questions:
What
inspired you to start studying color psychology?

While
visiting Germany, I learned about the Color Psychology classes offered at the
University of Salzburg. Those classes covered all things color. The shades of
the colors, the temperature of colors, reflection, color combinations and the
effects colors have on people subconsciously. It has always been an intriguing
subject to me.
What
should home owners consider when choosing a paint color for a specific room?
The
purpose of the room is very important. But the lighting and temperature can
also help direct you to a specific paint color. And lastly, when will be room
most be used and who will be using it?
What colors tend to be best for the
Buffalo, NY region?
The
Buffalo region has so many gray days that typically people need to use MORE
COLOR around here. Home owners should use far less gray, cream and tan. These are cold, non-feeling colors and we
need to use warmer more energetic, stimulating and happy colors. The colors of spring and summer should be
enjoyed all year long, especially in Buffalo. Everyone smiles when the stores
start bringing out the spring clothes. The reason is that colors make us happy.
It’s make perfect sense to start incorporating those colors in our home life
too.
What is a
common paint color mistake made by homeowners?
No
color at all. But we need color. There is no reason to be afraid of it. Nobody
ever criticized Mother Nature for her use of vibrant yellows, pinks and greens.
So don’t be afraid to take the plunge and add splashes of color into your
living spaces at home.
Judi Laird will be speaking at the Buffalo Home Show on March 8 or 9 at 12 noon and the presentations are expected to
be…colorful! Feel free to bring along your paint color questions too. A brief
Q&A will follow each speaking engagement. You can learn more about Judi
