Invented in Alberta, the Caesar is arguably one of Canada’s
most patriotic drinks. You can certainly try to order it outside of the
country, but it’s rare that the bartender is able to truly capture this Canadian
concoction. Why the rest of the world fears Clamato juice, Worcestershire sauce,
and horseradish, we may never know, but one thing is for sure, the Bloody Mary doesn’t come anywhere close to as good – no matter how many slices of pizza
it’s garnished with.
And so, in honour of Canada Day and the imminent hangovers
many of you face, we present the ultimate Caesar recipe. Drink up, proud
Canadians, drink up.
Ingredients
- Ice
- Vodka
- Worcestershire sauce
- Horseradish
- Pepper
- Hot sauce
- Pickle juice (optional)
- A pickle (optional)
- Celery salt
- Clamato
- Garnish of your choice - most common are celery stalks and limes (optional)
Directions
Step 1: Rim your glass with celery salt.
Step 2: Add ice to you glass (we usually put in 4-6 cubes,
depending on their size and the size of the glass).
Step 3: Pour a shot (or two, if you’re feeling bold) of
vodka over the ice.
Step 4: Add several shakes of Worcestershire sauce. We’re
talking 5-8 shakes; you want the colour of the beverage to be a nice, murky
brown. (There’s no such thing as too much Worcestershire sauce, in our opinion).
Step 5: Add a bit of hot sauce (use your discretion on this;
make it as spicy as you can handle).
Step 6: Add a forkful of horseradish.
Step 7: Add a dash of pepper (two or three twists of your
mill).
Step 8: Stir.
Step 9: Add your pickle juice (approximately a shot,
depending on how much you like pickles).
Step 10: Stir again.
Step 11: Fill the glass halfway with Clamato juice
Step 12: Add your pickle.
Step 13: Stir again.
Step 14: Fill the rest of the glass with Clamato.
Step 15: Stir again (no, really – it’s important to get all
those flavours mixed together!) and garnish it
if you’d like.
Step 16: Serve and enjoy.

Gorgeous Garland – We’re loving these sensational scallops. They’re easy to make, and although we don’t normally encourage tearing books apart for any reason, the finished product just looks so nice. String these guys up along your tables, doorways, fences – heck, string ‘em up everywhere!

Having a BBQ or outdoor soiree? String paper lanterns and pom poms, (red and white ones, of
course), around your yard to help set the mood. Not only are they perfectly patriotic,
they’ll also light up your space.

Bring your table together with a beautiful mason jar centrepiece. It’s simple

Leafy Libation - The
Leafs already drive you to drink, so why not sip something deliciously strong?
This maple leaf cocktail will hopefully help you forget that it’s been 45 years since the boys brought home the
cup. But seriously, this tasty cocktail is the perfect mix of bourbon, maple
syrup, lemon, and cinnamon; it’s sure to keep the party going.
Terrific Tom Collins
– You’ve got to try this twist on the classic Tom Collins. Some raspberries and
lemon simple syrup turn this drink delightfully sour. Plus they also make it a
festive red and white!

Brilliant “Beertail”
– You might think mixing beer and liquor is a bad idea (there’s even a rhyme
about it!) but this drink is the exception. Technically the recipe calls for a
liqueur, but it might still seem a little off putting. Seriously though, forget
about what you learned in college and try this delicious beverage. Crisp
watermelon, refreshing wheat beer, and sour liqueur come together to create
something amazing.

may fear the fry, gravy, curd combo, but they’re wrong. Embrace our
international food identity and serve this awesome snack at your party.

Holy Hotdog – Building
on the amazingness that is poutine, you’ve got to try this hotdog. Cheese
curds, maple mayo, and apple slices all top this dog! Like poutine, don’t knock
it ‘til you’ve tried it: this odd mix is the perfect blend of sweet and savory.

party talking!

SEASON'S GREETINGS, CHEERS!
Many of you have your classic holiday recipes, but one thing you may be lacking this season is a recipe for The Perfect Holiday Cocktail! Thankfully, Home and Garden Events is here to save the day, and the party. Below is the recipe and guide for our favourite holiday beverage; have your bar ready with all the essentials, and make them on the fly all night long. Without the vodka, even the kids can enjoy this drink with you!

As things start to get busy and the Home Show season
approaches, a quick weekend up to the cottage is a true blessing. It’s
the place to escape when craving some down time and to connect with family,
nature and yourself.
Take a deep breath and create a summer oasis
Sunrise is the best part of an early morning waking up at
the cottage. It makes the drive
worthwhile and the overuse of the snooze button '5 more minutes' not required. A breath of fresh air as you absorb the
views across the lake, taking a deep breath it feels like you are the only one in your piece of the
world. The concrete jungle and the
gentle hum of the city and the office are far in the past.
The early morning sight of the serene natural beauty of the
lake brings about 'happy place' to life.
As the morning light blankets the lake, calm and beauty take control.
The lake is so calm, like glass, a
big sigh releases the weight of the
world as it falls off your shoulders.
It's the best part of the morning, taking in the serenity of mother
nature, while sipping your morning coffee from the dock. A
popular instagram moment for me to share my happy place as morning coffee is inhaled
as the rest of the world awakes. And why
is it coffee always tastes better on the dock.
Fresh flowers a simple way to add colour and natural beauty to your cottage.
Nothing brightens a space quite like a pretty vase of fresh
flowers, so why not brighten the cottage too.
Be creative with simply ways to display the beautiful blooms. A great way is to reuse what you have. Clear or coloured bottles are perfect to
brighten the entrance with a few wild flowers. Simple but so pretty to great you
and your guests.
Be dramatic with beauty.
At it's finest, a
simple peony sits pretty in a simple glass vase. Beauty of this magnitude can stand
alone. A must for the cottage garden adding
fragrance and beauty.. . and adding to a glass vase - voila spendor!
Another great way to keep it simple and low maintenance for cottage
gardens, container gardening. In this
case it's so easy to use hanging baskets (with the hangers dismantled) displayed
throughout the rural landscape. Repurposed old existing or adding tree
stumps provides a simple natural stand
for flowering budding blooms and pops of colour. Easy to maintain and easy to water, no hose
required.
Candleight Crush
Bring the party outside and take your sense of style with
you. Giving the cottage a boost of
style, outdoor lanterns bring warmth glow to the outside. These gleaming oversized Lanterns with groupings
of pillar candles bring shimmering light to life as the dark skies fall. Candlelight, like open fires, have a certain
allure — one of warmth and romance.
Create an outdoor
living space, bring the inside out.
A cottage, whether a
summer retreat or a yearlong abode, needs to reflect your personality and
lifestyle. By extending the living space
and bringing it outside, a relaxing home away from home is created. In any addition to the natural landscape, keep
it simple and let the natural beauty play a large part. The outdoor furniture is important that it
reflected the views but comfort was the major factor. The deck is now an outdoor living room of
comfort and enjoyed by the whole family.
Create an Outdoor Dining Oasis
In addition to the main cottage a gazebo/Bunkie space existed
- over the years it's uses changed from relaxation oasis with relaxing large
pillows and flowing drapes to a mini adventure Bunkie.. .and never used. It underwent a mini makeover with the screens
taken down and the addition of a teak table -- and an outdoor dining oasis was
born. It breathes new life into the
landscape and now a popular gathering
place for delicious dining overlooking the lake with dusk settling in or
the moon rising.
Take time to enjoy your surroundings.
Live life to the fullest and make time to 'unplug' . Enjoy what mother nature has to offer.
