Use high-quality enamel paint, products such as Benjamin Moore Satin Impervo are durable, washable, and look great.

3. Function is the key to a good kitchen - Older homes tend to be tight on space. When working with a small kitchen consider opening up the floor plan. A kitchen island or adding a few shelves is a great way to increase storage.
