For many households, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s a high traffic area that sees a lot of enjoyment from every member of the family. We may spend a lot of time in our bedrooms, TV rooms, and bathrooms, but the kitchen is very central. It’s where we gather to cook, eat, and chat about our days. And when it comes to a space that sees as much action as the kitchen tends to, design and decor are important. So we’ve got to ask: which of the kitchens below do you prefer?

Where would you rather help with homework and sip your morning coffee? Option A’s colorful cookery? Or Option B’s modern creation? Which kitchen would you rather have in your home?

OPTION A

OPTION B

Our Choice: Option B

As much as we enjoy Option A’s whimsical color scheme and quirky retro touches, Option B is our favorite. The space is bright, open, and airy. Some may argue that an all white kitchen is dull, but it’s also classic. A bold color can sometimes come with an expiration date – what seems unique and fun can start to feel tired after you’ve seen it day after day, year after year. White tends to have a more long term appeal. Colorful accent pieces, like a yellow vase, can add the color you need and are much easier to replace.

The colour of your bedroom is truly about personal preference, so today we're presenting you with two carrying options.  It's light room versus dark room, and with natural wood elements incorporated in both, the true winner will be the one that gives off the most relaxing vibes.  Which will you choose? Will it be the serene white space with a zen atmosphere, or the charcoal space complete with rich fabrics and soothing lighting? Check them out below...

Recently featured at our Calgary Home + Design Show, this retro rewind "Newlywed" living room showcases function and style in a very creative way.  Designed by Cassie Reid, Emily Hoff, and Samantha McKay, this space incorporates the classic IKEA white sofa with an added fabric face lift.

In addition to this easy makeover, the use of black and white in this space balances the stunning bold blue perfectly.  What ties it all together? For us it's the combination of the gold accents and the awesome area rug!

What do you think about this space?

Let us know what you love most about your living room, and what inspired you while decorating your living room!

"As a family of 6 (wowsers !) we spend most of our time in the kitchen with family and friends. As a designer and blogger, I truly believe that everyone should have a sofa in their kitchen ! It is a great conversational area and a fun space to really enjoy and chillax.

Our home is a 100 year old farmhouse with an adult sized treehouse too. I am so inspired by the trees and nature around me, and all the organic elements it has to offer.  I love working with elements that are already present around me. Green moss, twigs, river rocks, and boxwood.

The curtains in the living room were hung with twigs (from the treehouse trees) for an added interest. Lighting is from West Elm and the sofas were completely affordable from Ikea. The Ikea sofas are a slip cover design & therefore so very easy to maintain. (Don't let all the WHITE scare you, it is super easy to take care of).

We literally use the space every single day. Not a bit of space is wasted. We love love love it and hope you do too !  The room has such a positive energy & natural look/comfortable feel ...and is heated by a vintage elmira wood stove in the kitchen.  We can sit in our (kitchen) living room and enjoy the smell of bread baking in the oven. YUM !!

It's trendy Thursday, and today, I'm highlighting some white...or mostly white living rooms!  Nowadays, many are opting for bold paint colors and accent walls, so it's nice to see that beautiful design can be showcased in mostly-white spaces.

White in home decor has always been a preference of mine, and while it may not always be the most practical color, it really provides the perfect blank canvas showcase the items and features you love the most.

P.S. - Your living could be featured here on our blog. Enter our living room challenge now!
