Your calendars are about to get a little fuller when it comes to this fall’s Vancouver Home + Design Show, October 11-14 at BC Place.

We’ve already told you about opening night, dubbed Savour Thursday, thanks to its highly anticipated Dessert Duel and a special cookbook signing with Rob Feenie right afterwards. Fashionistas have undoubtedly noted Style Friday, complete with a fashion show presented by Park Royal, coveted swag bags and a $2,500 makeover giveaway.  Next up? Design Saturday, an all-day, all-evening celebration of home design, whether its in your kitchen, living room or elsewhere.

Starting at 10AM, Chef Jason Parsons of Peller Estates Winery Restaurant will host and judge the Samsung Passion for Fresh Cooking Challenge, where three local amateur chefs will go head-to-head, armed with a chef from YEW Restaurant & Bar, Fable or The Dirty Apron to mentor and assist, professional equipment, fresh ingredients and a secret recipe revealed by Samsung’s top-of-the-line wifi-enabled fridge. The winner will receive $7,500 worth of Samsung Home Appliances for their own kitchen – not too shabby for a so-called amateur! Wait until you see the innovative new appliances from Samsung. When it comes to home kitchen design, they’re tops in my books – and a perfect fit for Design Saturday.

If you’re interested putting your cooking chops on show, stay tuned. Our friends at Global BC will be launching the call for competitors in just a few weeks’ time.

Over on the HGTV Main Stage, Design Saturday promises to live up to its name with all five of our big-name celebrity presenters going front-and-centre at least once, including the much-loved Bryan Baeumler. Maria Killam and Janette Ewen will both be conducting free 10-minute design consultations at Ask a Decorator immediately after their presentations, while Jillian Harris will meet-and-greet fans at the BC Hydro Powersmart Home after both of her appearances.

Where else will you have the opportunity to meet these highly sought-after women and score their coveted advice, all for NO charge? I say that’s worth the cost of admission – and then some (okay, I’m biased, but I really do think that!).

Three days down, one to go. Come back next week to learn about the fourth and final theme day at this fall’s Vancouver Home + Design ShowRenovate Sunday. Something tells me you’re going to be one busy shopper!
