Turning A Cargo Container Into A High-Tech Home

Get space saving and de-cluttering ideas at the Cargotecture-Inspired Container Living feature designed by the Interior Design Association of WNY at the Buffalo Home Show. Come out and see this affordable and minimalist trend up close and be inspired by how large designers have made these small spaces feel.

This unique style of design is built partially or entirely from one or many of the estimated two million empty, recycled ISO shipping containers that sit idle at any given time. Making use of these otherwise vacant cargo containers is an environmentally-friendly way to create an original and inviting residential space.

Local professional interior designers from the Interior Design Association of WNY have re-imagined how a Buffalo city lot could be transformed by two distinct cargo containers: a 8'X40' container and a 8'X20' container. With the help of Sound & Theater, these containers will be given a high-tech twist. The overhauled cargo containers will host invisible speakers and none of the electronics will be exposed inside the display either - you'll have to see it to believe it!

The Buffalo Home Show continues at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center March 13-15, 2015. Tons Of New Features At The 2015 Buffalo Home Show

Nearly 300 vendors will be setting up this year for the 2015 Buffalo Home Show, taking place two weekends only (March 6-8 and 13-15) at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. Vendors will be spread out across two levels to showcase everything from pools and fences to fireplaces and kitchens! Here's what's new for guests this year:

1. John and Whitney Spinks, dynamic husband and wife duo from the popular HGTV series Flipping The Block. These DIY darlings will give tips and tricks to renovating on a budget Saturday, March 8th and Sunday, March 9th at 1pm and 4pm.

2. Matt Muenster, celebrity guest and host of HGTV's Dream Home 2015 and the DIY Network series Bath Crashers. Matt will be sharing ideas and advice for renovating your bathroom on Saturday, March 14th and Sunday, March 15th at 1pm and 4pm.

3. The interior Design Association (IDA) or Western New York will showcase the space saving and de-cluttering ideas of Cargotecture-inspired Container Living. Visitors can see how local professional interior designers take 8' X 40' and 8' X 20' cargo containers and transform a Buffalo city lot into a high-tech home.

4. Master Gardener and lead landscape designer at Backyard Orchards, David Myers will inspire audiences with his creative sustainable and edible landscaping presentation. This spring, David's landscape designs will be showcased on the HGTV show American Rehab.

5. Local celebrity guest presentations by:

• Editor-in-chief of Buffalo Spree magazine and Garden Rant blogger Elizabeth Licata.
• Owner and Lead Designer of Transitions Home Staging & Redesign, LLC., Kathleen Emhof.
