The Scoop: A former esthetician with an incredible eye for detail, local designer Alexis Dodd is the driving force behind Steelwood Design. Her goal is to create functional art for the home through sustainable design that utilizes the art of reusing, recycling, and repurposing. Together with her dad, Alexis has managed to find beauty in even the most unlikely of resources to create unique handcrafted pieces – from candles and lamps to tables and benches – that combine timeless form and function.

Claim to Fame: Each piece by Steelwood Design is thoughtfully handpicked and handcrafted by Alexis herself. On Saturday mornings, she can be found at shipyards and digging through steel bins, reclaiming and unlocking the potential in wood and steel. Alexis’ work embraces natural beauty marks like knots, grains, and other imperfections only in found in handcrafted art to produce pieces that are brimming with both history and character.
