Ty will be sharing design tools and techniques that won't break your budget, plus he'll let the audience in on some behind-the-scenes stories about his time on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

What's your first priority when decorating a room?

Find out the purpose of the room to determine the personality of the room.

What lessons from last year are you going to use in 2014?

Always have a backup plan. Plan A, B and C.

What are three timeless decorating choices?

Natural wood, go with neutral colors on walls and third, use lighting that can be adjusted to create moods.

If you had to give homeowners one piece of advice, what would it be?

Make sure you can finish before you start.

Name your favorite time-saving tools or technology/apps.

Laser leveling tools. The Lever app on your phone is a great time saver.

How do you relax?

Being outdoors, small adventures and writing songs.

When you're traveling, how do you organize your inspiration?

With my camera. It travels everywhere with me and captures all of my inspiation.

Favorite literary character?

The Cat in the Hat.
