The Making of the Centerpiece Home

For the 2016 Indianapolis Home Show, Fischer Homes is again debuting an all-new home design for this year’s Centerpiece Home: the Allerton. It is built entirely inside Exposition Hall at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

What’s this majestic 4,010-square-foot home look like as its coming together? Check out these photos!


A European Romantic elevation with soaring rooflines and a painted brick exterior, the Allerton boasts four bedrooms and 3½ baths spread across a majestic 4,010 square feet. It features an expansive great room and adjoining kitchen, ground floor study, formal dining room and family gathering room. The second floor master suite, including spa-like bathroom and large walk-in closet with adjoining laundry, is accompanied by two child bedrooms, boy and girl, and a guest room.

“With its eye-pleasing mix of form and function, the Allerton is sure to inspire Home Show attendees,” said Indianapolis Market President for Fischer Homes Brad Kriner. “We invite everyone to come to the show and see how Fischer Homes is working to give people the opportunity to create their dream home.”

Get Smart At The Edmonton Home + Garden Show With The Wavefront Automation Smart Home

We are all about inspiration and innovation when it comes to home design, which is why were are so thrilled about our Wavefront Automation Smart Home feature at the Edmonton Home + Garden Show.

Rosalyn Lazaruk, Owner of Wicket Blue Interiors, used her expertise to give the Wavefront Automation Smart Home life and colour. She says her job was to give the space a functional layout.

"It's a small space, which can be a challenge for space planning. We wanted to get the most out of the space while still keeping it open and airy."

With a limited amount of room to work with, Rosalyn played up the Smart Home interiors by including visually interesting pieces, making sure that the smaller layout was interesting and enticing.

As for her inspiration for the home's interior, the Smart Home will be showcasing the latest in efficient home design with innovation gadgets from Wavefront Automation. We can't wait to see what they come up with!

Make Your Living Space Functional & Dynamic

Companies like Google have redefined the meaning of a dynamic workspace, with bright colours, slides instead of stairs, and large-scale installations throughout meeting spaces. Maybe you're not ready to go to quite that extent in your own home, but there are certain design options you can incorporate to make your home stand out from the pack.

Consider the following ideas:

Create indoor/outdoor living spaces. This can be achieved through a pair of glass-panned French doors off the living room, opening up to the outdoor patio. If you're considering a full remodel, a retractable glass wall will achieve the same effect with a more daring impact.

Try your hand at DIY. Do-It-Yourself projects not only personalize a space, but they become a conversation piece perfect for entertaining. Consider taking on an art project incorporating family photos. Experiment with canvas size, frames, and different layouts to accent a point of interest in a room.

Incorporate something unexpected. Consider wall treatments or furniture that one doesn't normally see in a living space. For example, stone treatments are conventionally kept for the fireplace or outdoor living space, but if you have an open living area with plenty of natural light, a stone or brick wall can add a nice flair of character to a space.

Design around a focal point. The focal point directs the eye to what it should see first. This could be a grand fireplace or statement coffee table in the centre of a seating area. Once you pick your focal point, coordinate other aspects of your design to compliment this statement piece.

Be Inspired By Innovative Home Design At The Great Big Home + Garden Show

Whether you're looking for inspiration to maximize the length of time you can stay in your home as you age or looking to create a high-tech entertainment space, The Great Big Home + Garden Show's Idea, High-Tech Entertainment, and Cedar Brooke homes are sure to give you lots of great ideas. Idea Home

A 2,400 square-foot ranch-style home, the Winding Willow Lodge is an amazing open concept home that bridges the gap between lodge/rustic and traditional architecture. Large open spaces in the kitchen, dining, and family rooms, featuring 10 foot ceilings, connect to outside living spaces located off of the family room and master bedroom, making it the perfect space to entertain family and friends. The fully constructed, 1,500 square-foot High-Tech Entertainment Home by Xtend Technologies will inspire visitors with ideas for their own indoor/outdoor entertainment and recreation areas. Designed with entertaining in mind, its home theater, indoor spa, beautifully landscaped patio with fire fit, outdoor movie theater with a 150-inch screen, and a large in-ground pool provides the perfect set up for having family and friends over for a party. Guests can sit in one of eight leather, power-reclining home theater seats and experience live demonstrations in Xtend Technologies' Home Theater. Special features include a 13-channel THX and Dolby Atmos state of the art sound system, a 100-inch 4k ultra high-definition screen, custom acoustical sound paneling, and a home automation solution that allows for complete control of all entertainment features, lighting, heating/cooling, door locks, and security cameras. Landscaping and the patio surrounding the outside of the home is provided by Morton's Landscaping.

How did your company get started?

 Years ago, founder Shimon travelled abroad where, for the first time, he set his eyes on freeform wood tables and stunning furniture made of natural, often recycled materials similar to what we see in our stores today. He instantly connected with these one-of-a-kind pieces and knew it was something he would be passionate about sharing.

What are your products/services?

Artemano focuses on handmade, high-quality furniture made mostly out of different types of beautiful wood.  Many of our pieces have a one-of-a-kind silhouette and unrefined design that comes straight from nature. All distinct features, including knots, cracks and crevices, are carefully preserved and cherished.  Many people don’t know that Artemano offers an in-home interior design service that you can take advantage of either before or after your purchase - you decide!

What is your company’s mantra?

“Home is an escape and we love to create it” . We believe that your home is the one place you should be able to go to truly relax. Incorporating organic furniture that you love is one of the best ways to achieve serenity.

What are your home and
garden pet peeves?

The old saying “less is more” is most definitely a belief of ours, so our design pet peeve is clutter.  Too much furniture or too many decorative accessories overwhelms any space and creates energy less conducive to tranquility.

What are your top 3 home and garden tips for this season?

  1. Opposites attract; mix warm and cold pieces, modern and rustic styling, bright and dull colors.
  2. Liven up any space for spring with plants and flowers for a fresh, bright zone.
  3. Quality over quantity. Instead of over accessorizing your home, choose a few pieces that best represent you and your space to be the focal point.
What is the weirdest client request you have ever received?

After looking at a rocking horse displayed in one of our stores, a customer asked if we has the same piece but with the horse holding a spear in one of its hands.  We did not.
