We're thrilled to announce that Ty Pennington is joining us this year at the Kansas City Remodeling Show on Saturday Feb. 8! We were recently given the terrific opportunity to ask the amazing Ty Pennington, home-design guru from ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, some simple questions.  His answers not only surprised us, they also cracked us up!  Check out 'em out below...

Name a fictional character with whom you most closely identify.
"Sponge Bob Square Pants"

What’s your personal mantra?
"Be Original, Natural and Genuine"

What is the most challenging part of your job?
"Giving my ‘final answer.’"

What is your favourite design or garden-related phone app?
"Camera plus – gives you tons of editing options for your pix."

What is your favorite organizational tip?
"Get back up as in hard drives and Hire an assistant."

What is your design or gardening pet peeve?
"Anything Faux (like faux Brick)…etc. unless it’s Vietnamese Pho…"

Any embarrassing on-the-job moments you’d like to share?
"Having to dress up as a lobster to motivate the team in Maine.  I felt like a real crustacean"

What was the last item you bought for your home? 
A new sofa…long overdue my back was killing me.  Let’s face it kicking your feet up is nice

"The floor plan, measure – Where is each piece of furniture going to go?"

"A print shop, I loved the fumes"
4. Most memorable career moment to date?
"A moving moment involving a family, a bus and 5,000 plus volunteers."
5. Describe your design style in five words or less.
"Well I’m sort of an oxymoron: Modern/Primitive, Organic/Symmetric, Bold/Subtle"
6. Where do you gather most of your inspiration for new projects?
"From my travels."
7. What do you think is the best way to use wallpaper nowadays?
"On accent walls ... and ceilings."
8. Have you ever had any home décor/design regrets?
"How much time do we have?"
9. What design/gardening trend or item are you coveting this season?
"The vertical garden."

"Kitchen, it’s where we all end up no matter how comfortable the rest of the house is."
