What shape is your fall decor in? That’s right, we said the
f-word. With September 23rd’s arrival it’s official: fall is here.
We’ve already talked about simple chores homeowners can do to protect their
properties from the effects of cooler weather, but the start of fall means more
than home maintenance – it’s also time to update our decor.
It’s too soon for most to go full on Halloween in their
space, (if you have, no judgement from us – we’re big fans of this spooky
holiday), but many will wait until closer to the 31st to light their
jack-o-lanterns. So what do you do in the meantime? We’ve compiled a list of
cute and clever fall decor ideas you can incorporate into your home to help get
everyone in the autumnal spirit.
Pumpkin Planters –
We are absolutely loving this succulent pumpkin combination. The vibrant orange
of the pumpkin goes so well with the rich greens and reds of the succulents and
the earthy moss they sit on. This simple craft makes for a lovely centerpiece
but is also sturdy enough to be placed on your porch or walkway. What a nice
way to welcome fall into your home!
Branch Out! – How
cute is this foliage-inspired craft? This is a fun project for the whole family
to tackle and the end result is a truly unique piece to display in your home.
It doesn’t get much better than that!
Chalk-Gourds – Prefer
to paint, rather than carve, your pumpkin? This DIY should be right up your
alley! Instead of applying a scene or face to your gourd, use chalkboard paint.
This way you can write messages and draw designs again and again (all the way
through to Thanksgiving!).

Gorgeous Gourds –
Set an autumnal moods in any space with these sweet candle holders. We all
already know how fun it is to create displays with fall gourds; image what you
could do with them if they were candle holders! Adding a little seasonal spice
to your table setting will be a breeze with these guys!

Autumn Address – The
mail carrier will always be able to find your house (and will leave it with lots
of fall spirit) when you incorporate this playful pumpkin into your porch
decor! We’re especially fond of this project because you can leave it out for
so long since it’ll work well with Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations.

Thanksgiving why not get a little creative with your dessert? Everyone loves
pumpkin pie, there’s no denying it. This sweet, rich, warm treat is a
quintessential part of the holiday season. We aren’t encouraging you to abandon
it altogether (that would be Thanksgiving blasphemy), but instead, think about
giving it a little upgrade. We’ve gathered a list of pumpkin pie alternatives
that are sure to delight every pumpkin lover and let you serve something new. Check them out below and try your
favorite this holiday.
1. Pumpkin Cheesecake - Yes, it can be done and it looks scrumptious! Can you think of a more decadent dessert?

2. Impossible Pumpkin Pie Cupcakes - The best thing about cupcakes is that they take the pain out of serving. No slicing, no portion control, no cutlery. Super cute and super easy.

3. Pumpkin French Toast - Ok, you caught us. This isn't technically a dessert. But it looked way too good not to include on our list. If you're having a Thanksgiving brunch you absolutely have to make this! (We're having a Thanksgiving brunch as an excuse to make this...).

Here at
Marketplace Events we love getting crafty. We’ve done pumpkin paint offs and
found lots of eggspiration. We’ve asked you to share your best DIYs and in turn
we’ve given you lots of tips and ideas for projects. To celebrate fall we’re
following our creative tradition and doing what we love best: an autumn craft
challenge. We asked our colleagues to scour the internet and their childhood
memories in search of the best autumn crafts for the home. Everyone had a
minimal budget and three weeks to create something seasonal. Here’s a taste of
what we came up with.

Fake spiders with cottony webs, construction paper bats, and a grinning jack-o-lantern: all tried
and true Halloween decor tropes. One of the best parts of Halloween is the
decorating, but it can be hard to come up with new and creative ways to scare
trick-or-treaters year after year. Not sure how you should decorate this
Halloween? We’ve got you covered. Check out the top ten Halloween decorations we
recommend trying and get ready to have the best looking house on the block.
1. Black-cat-o-lanterns: Jack-o-lanterns are so 2006. This year, turn your classic pumpkin into a black cat. With their eyes all lit up in the darkness these beauties will look purrfect.

2. Ghost jugs: You can make these as cute or as spooky as you'd like, it just depends on the expression you give your ghouls.

3. Glowing eyes: Who knew toilet paper rolls and glow sticks could be so scary?

4. Chicken wire ghosts: This is definitely a more complex project, but the end result will be amazing.

5. Window monsters: How cute are these guys? Create your own scary or adorable silhouettes.

6. Glow in the dark pumpkins: Skip the carving altogether without losing the eerie glow that a flickering candle can cast.

October is here and you know what that means: the countdown to Halloween is on! It's time to get your carving knife out, hang your cobwebs, and do the Monster Mash. Halloween is a favorite holiday of many. There's candy, parties, and costumes - what's not to love?
Although it's enjoyed by most, Halloween does tend to mean different things to different people. Some appreciate the frivolity of dressing up, while others focus on the holiday's spooky origins. Which do you prefer? Would you rather have an adorable pumpkin like Option A's caterpillar-inspired creation? Or does Option B's scary sentiment speak volumes to you? Which jack-o-lantern would you want to greet your visitors?
Our Choice:
We can easily appreciate the hard work that went into Option B. It has many layers, is well painted, and definitely achieves the frightening effect it was going for. That being said, it's just a bit too scary for us. Although Halloween is a holiday that people of all ages enjoy, many of the knocks your door receives on the 31st will be from youngsters. Terrifying trick-or-treaters isn't in our repertoire, so we're choosing Option A. It's sweet, original, and fun for the whole family.
Since Halloween is fast approaching, we've got to ask: are you a fan of the cute or the scary? Will your night feature Charlie Brown or Michael Meyers? Will you suffer a candy coma or have some nightmares? Let us know below!

1. Keep It Organic
Sometimes, keeping it simple and organic is the way to go when planning a busy dinner. Don't underestimate the power of a few perfectly placed gourds, pine cones and artichokes.

Thanksgiving is where everyone comes together for a mixture warm fall flavors. Why not make your table and cocktail decor more eclectic by placing glass, wooden, ceramic, and metallic elements all on one table.
3. Opt For Non-Traditional Linen Colors
Purple or eggplant, dark green, grey, white, all are great table alternatives if you're looking to switch up the traditional thanksgiving look.

Here at Marketplace Events, we like try and keep up with all of the home and garden trends presented at our home shows. One trend that seems to be blowing up on social media these days is pumpkin painting, so we decided to put our creativity to the test and challenge our entire Toronto office to a pumpkin paint-off!
With some acrylic craft paint, glitter, and glue, nearly 20 amazingly painting pumpkins were created.

The drink that will warm your heart and your stomach this fall!
Hot
Chocolate Ingredients:
2 cups of whipping cream
2 cups of whipping cream
6 cups of milk
1 ½ teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 (12 ounce) package of white chocolate
chips
¼ (3 ounce) package butterscotch morsels
Ingredients:
4 ounces Butterscotch Schnapps
1 – 2 ounces Amaretto
Prepare in your crock-pot I can keep the
mixture warm and melted and do not have to worry about stepping out of the
party to make hot chocolate! This recipe
serves about 10.
Start this recipe right before everyone
arrives so that you will have some time to cook it while everyone is up and
mingling. It will simmer on low for 2
hours and be ready for dessert!
Add all of the hot chocolate ingredients
into your slow cooker -- whipping cream, milk, pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice,
vanilla and white chocolate chips and butterscotch morsels.
Stir occasionally until mixture is melted
together.
Right before you serve (if you want to add
the holiday cheer) you can add the Butterscotch Schnapps and Amaretto to make it a
creamy nutty drink!
Serve with whipped cream and your favorite cookies!

19 Amazing Pumpkins
Recently, the Toronto Marketplace Events office took part in the first annual Halloween Pumpkin Paint-Off. For two days, office staff worked hard on their pumpkin creations, using both the supplies given and various items from home. The result, 19 amazingly creative pumpkins!
While all of the pumpkins were incredibly special, the office was forced to pick their the top 3. These top three will be featured on the Home and Garden Events Facebook page (on Halloween day), where you can VOTE for your favorite.
