CONFESSIONS OF A HOME SHOW JUNKIE, VOL. 3: DOUG LEMIEUX

 

There’s a little term that we like to throw around the Vancouver Home + Design Show office: “home show junkie.” We save this descriptor for a select group of people – those that have been around our shows longer than we can remember, and who we couldn’t ever imagine throwing one without!

This week, we ‘re chatting with Doug Lemieux of DADO Designs, who builds all of the fine displays you’ll see throughout this fall’s Vancouver Home + Design Show. Our show would be infinitely less attractive without this keen eye and creative mind – we’re forever grateful he’s part of our team!

How many years have you participated in the Vancouver Home + Design Show / BC Home + Garden Show (since what year)? 2005

Describe your involvement: I build and setup all the features.

How did you originally get involved with home shows? I was setting up a booth for an exhibitor and ended up helping build some last-minute items for the show. The rest is history!

Describe the Vancouver Home + Design Show in five words or less: Controlled chaos.

What does the term 'home show' mean to you? Long hours, lots of fun.

What's the best item you've ever purchased at a home show? Cold beer. After putting all the pieces of the show together, that beer tastes better than ever!

What is your favourite part of a home show? An hour before the show opens, because there is a buzz in the air and everyone is frantically working to get all of the final touches complete.

Tell us about your best home show memory: That is a hard one, as each one is so different getting to work with all the great people makes it an enjoyable experience. I love every minute.

What's the craziest thing you've ever seen/experienced at a home show? Looking at my watch at 3:00 am and realizing that we are behind schedule and I am not going to be able to go home and sleep. Needless to say, we survived the 30-hour day and we were finished on time.

What are you most looking forward to at this fall's Vancouver Home + Design Show? Working with a great team and helping with another successful show.
