He’s the host of HGTV’s “Room Crashers,” a show that finds unsuspecting homeowners who need help with their home improvement projects.

Todd Davis is just the guy to show Indianapolis Home Show attendees how to transform dull, bland rooms into stunning, eye-popping showpieces with his adventurous design style.

To get to know a little more about Todd, here’s a Q&A!

1. Name three items you couldn’t live without.
A good paintbrush, tape measure and Pano Camera

2. How did you get your start in the design business?
I bought my loft here in San Francisco and remodeled the entire thing. It was a three-dimensional canvas I have never worked with before, and it changed my life forever for the better.

3. Describe your design style in five words or less.
Interactive, dynamic, unique, creative and chaotic

4. What is your most memorable career moment to date?
Living in Ginger Rogers’ old estate in Beverly Hills for two months, implementing two projects in the house with a black credit card in my back pocket

5. What is your personal motto?
Take chances, and have fun.

6. What is something your fans may not know about you?
I lived in a snow cave I made in Argentina for more than a month. I never saw a summer in more than 11 years touring as a professional athlete for skiing and snowboarding, bouncing back and forth between the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. Oh, and I am a Guinness World Record Holder for flying my skydiving wing suit in the biggest formation the sky has ever witnessed last year in Perris, Calif. One hundred strong, I was second from the base, which means I set the angle and distance for the other 99 wing suit pilots behind me in the formation. What a wonderful visual to break off and see so many pilots open everywhere around me!

7. Explain why you love “Room Crashers.”
I love "Room Crashers" because it's like living life in fast forward. I randomly meet new people in new locations I have never been to. They give me a tour of their house, I get to design anything I want, it's free to them, and it adds value to their home.

Implementing the design during construction can be chaotic, but there is a surprise reveal and people cry, sometimes out of joy! I wave goodbye and start it all over the following week in another town I have never been to, with a whole new group of friends. I am living in less than a week what most people live in a year; it's so much fun, and it feels amazing to change people’s lives in a positive way.

Today we're asking you to choose the perfect sofa pattern for this amazing living room space (featured at our BC Home + Garden Show).  What will it be, A, B or C?  There's really no wrong answer!

Our choice...

A!! In our opinion, this simple grey convertible sofa is perfect for this small space living room.

Being crowned HGTV’s first-ever Design Star All Stars winner hasn’t gone to Leslie Ezelle’s head.  This nationally acclaimed interior designer, TV personality, cancer-survivor and mom of six keeps herself busy incorporating simplicity, structure and function into her projects and her life.

"I am loving white on cream, light grey on light taupe and white on white."

We sat down with Leslie to ask her a few questions about design, life, and tire tables. Read on to learn more about this design star – and be sure to catch her presentation on the main stage at the Great Big Texas Home Show at Cowboys Stadium, March 8-10, 2013!

What design trend or item are you coveting this season?

”Trend??” “Item??” I have WAY too many favorites to choose just one! But, my most favorite piece in my home is my coffee table from Montauk Sofa, the tire table from Design Star Season 6.  I loved it so much that I ordered it from NYC, and had it shipped all the way to Dallas!

Today it's all about EXPOSED BRICK! While this is something most of the homes below were built with, I'd like to emphasize how beautiful the brick element can be in a home.  So if you have exposed brick in your home, take a look at some of my favorite spaces, maybe these will help you decide whether or not you should paint.

Happy Valentine's Day from all of us here at Home and Garden Events! A lot of people think that Valentine's Day is about giving flowers, chocolates, and jewellery, and while those gifts are very pleasant, today should be about spending time with loved ones.

So today we're asking you, out of these two spaces, which space would you choose to spend time with your loved ones?  Space A, with the romantic reds and navy blues? Or Space B, the turquoise and yellow dream?

Which one did we choose?

We love the cozy and elegant feeling of space A (source).

Do you agree with our pick?

Please, let us know your choice below!

Yellow is a very bold and drastic color, however, it is also quite warm and cheery.  While not everybody may be willing to design their whole room around this one color, adding small touches of yellow can still pack a beautiful punch! Below are some of my favorites:

Meet our Home + Garden Show Design Expert Rachel Kate!  Most recently a top design finalist on HGTV’s  Season 7 of Design Star, Rachel always had an eye for fashion and interiors.  You can catch Rachel at our Minneapolis Home + Garden Show (Feb 27 - Mar 3).

We recently caught up with Rachel and had her answer a quick Q&A, check it out below!

12 Questions:

1. What three items do you always keep with you in your pockets?

Measuring tape, lipstick and  Altoids

2. How did your first job go?

I learned how to measure 20’ windows for draperies, and design an s-shaped 2-sided sofa for a client down in Florida. It was definitely interesting

3. How were you discovered?

I walked into an Interior Design Furnishing Manufacturing Company in Boca Raton, FL and asked for a job, with no Interior Design experience at the time. I went to school for fashion but could draw well so they hired me to design everything from custom upholstery and draperies to wall units and custom area rugs. Quit an experience, and that was 13 years ago!

4. What is your most memorable career moment to date?

5. Describe your design style in five words or less:

My personal style is: Natural, simplistic and rustic

6. What design trend or item are you coveting this season?

A lot of grey finishes, soothing neutral tones, and natural materials

7. What’s your favorite room in your house and why?

My living room, that’s where all the action is.

8. The last item you bought or crafted for your own home?

Fabric for draperies that I want to make

9. What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Put it on a spreadsheet, see if the numbers will work – Always my dad’s advice to me his creative artist daughter

10. What are your design pet peeves?

Poorly designed built-ins that “need to stay”

11. Are you on Pinterest?

The Indianapolis Home Show and Fischer Homes recently got a look at what the vision is for the interior design of the Centerpiece Home at the 2013 Indianapolis Home Show.

Joy Perkins from Touch of Class presented her ideas for what her team will be working on inside the Nottoway, the home design with a French Country elevation being constructed by Fischer Homes.

From a two-sided fireplace in the foyer to vintage wine barrels and chestnut leather chairs, Joy plans to create a “Rustic Luxe” theme throughout the home. She will be using weathered woods along with black coffee and natural wood tones with metal accents.

She gave us a view into her vision with presentation boards for both the first and second floors of the Nottoway home. The boards included samples of materials and swatches of colors she plans to use in her designs. Check out Joy’s presentation boards!

Conquer Your Passion - Art Print & Canvas  Gray Wood - Custom Art Print & Canvas  What You Believe - Art Print & Canvas

This week’s profile is an exhibitor who recently attended the Toronto Fall Home Show for the very first time, Evoke & Imagine...
(DON'T WORRY, they ship to all of North America)

Their business: Evoke & Imagine currently specializes in wall art—fine art prints, canvases and wall decals. They also give individuals the option to create custom wall art from any of their templates.

THE PROFILE

How did your company get started?

We are very passionate about self-improvement and design. We realize this is an interesting intersection but that’s exactly where we came up with the idea to make quotes a part of home and office décor. We wanted to start with a whole line of products (cushions, wall art, bed sheets etc.) but realized that we should start small and expand as the business grows.

What inspires your company when creating your various products?

We spend a lot of time browsing online for trends and design inspiration. Pinterest has been a great tool for gathering information and inspiring the team. We also look for inspiration in unusual places—sometimes a great idea or product will come from an amazing experience, conversation or even a dream.

Describe your company’s design style in five words or less.

Clean. Contemporary. Thought provoking.

What is your featured item this for the holiday season?

Definitely our wall decals; they were such a hit at the show we can’t wait to make them available in all of our designs.

Do you listen to music in the workplace?

Some days we can’t work without music and others we need complete silence—really depends on what kind of day it is. When we are playing music we generally listen to R&B and soul.

Any embarrassing company moments you are willing to share?

The first time we ever printed one of our designs we had a proud and exciting moment, it was amazing to see our work as an actual product. A few second passed and we noticed that the print we had just blown up had a grammar mistake! We’ve kept that print framed in our office as a reminder to always double check our spelling and grammar.

How many years have you been involved in the Fall Home Show?

This was our first year with the Fall Home Show—we are very happy we participated.

What is your favourite part about the show?

Networking! Meeting people from other companies and show attendees was definitely the best experience.
