COLOR, DOWNTOWN RALEIGH HOME SHOW, jewelry, NORTH CAROLINA, RALEIGH, Raleigh Convention Center, SPONSOR, SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT, STYLE, TRENDS, VINTAGE No comments
We're thrilled to have the Go Girl Shoppe joining us at the Raleigh Home Show, February 13 - 15 at the Raleigh Convention Center. Before you see this traveling shop at the show, get the inside scoop on what they're bringing, who they are, and what you can expect from them!
1. What are your featured products this season?
"I don't think we ever have one item that we would call a featured product. All of our items are different and don't fit standard categories. We are always trying to make our items more funky than before, or different. Sometimes an idea pops in our heads and that is the trend that we are on for a while, but we quickly move on to a new one."
2. What can we look forward to from you at the show?
"LOTS of COLOR and patterns."
3. What home design and decor trends are you anticipating for 2015?
"We have really become obsessed with all the new chalk and milk paint brands that are out right now. It seems like every week there is a new one with a new color. It's fun to experiment and mix the colors to see what new color comes out of the mix. I can't say I have a favorite brand though. Every time I try a new one, I like it better than the one I tried before, however they all have different qualities about them that I like."
4. What inspires your products?
"Color and patterns. We are obsessed with trying new combinations. We love mixing the not-so-obvious with one another and sometimes we find that they looked like they belonged together all along."
5. What is your favorite part of the Raleigh Home Show?
"This is our first year attending so we are excited about seeing all the new home decor trends that are out there."
6. What advice would you give homeowners?
"Our advice for homeowners, either first-time or previous homeowners, is don't be afraid of color and don't buy something UNLESS you absolutely love it! People sometimes settle because it's an easy choice or they can't see past what something could be. If it's the right piece but the wrong color, change it. If you find a really cool, funky piece of furniture but aren't sure what will go with it...well, there is always something, it just might take a little time."
7. What is your creativity process like?
"I don't think we have a creative process. When we see a piece of furniture it speaks to us. It's the fun of the hunt. Never knowing what is out there but keeping an open mind and stretching our creativity to do something different."
Don't miss out on the Go Girl Shoppe's fine features and the excitement they're bringing to the show! Buy your tickets early to get the best deals and avoid box office lines. Right now you can get 2-for-1 tickets on Facebook. Bring a friend or family member to the show - we can't wait to see you there!

On the popular HGTV show Flipping The Block, John and Whitney Spinks were Team Black, competing against three other teams on a quest to transform a dingy, Southern California condo, room by room, with just a $37,000 budget. At the Birmingham Home + Garden Show, the married duo will share behind-the-scenes secrets on how they renovated each room as part of their journey to "flip" the final project for the biggest profit - plus they'll give us the inside scoop on how they won so many room challenges.
John and Whitney Spinks share what's hot right now in home decor:
Mixing Metals - Mixing gold decor with rose gold or silver is very hot right now! It's eclectic and somewhat unexpected, which makes rooms with multiple metals more interesting.
Navy Blue Paint - While it may not be Pantone's Color of the Year, it is all the rage, and it's one of our favorite colors. It's a classy color that pairs well with creams, corals, marble, and gray.
Geometric Patterns - Triangles are becoming very popular. We're using lighting fixture made in geometric shapes - so cool!
See John and Whitney on the Fresh Ideas Home Stage at the Birmingham Home + Garden Show on February 14 at 12pm and 4pm and February 15 at 12pm and 3pm. ALBERTA, Calgary, CALGARY HOME AND GARDEN SHOW, Carson Arthur, inspiration, marble, organic wood, Outdoor Decor, ROSE GOLD, Spring, Spring Inspiration, SPRING TRENDS, SUCCULENTS, TRENDS No comments
At this year's Calgary Home + Garden Show, it's all about spring inspiration for your home - both inside and out. In anticipation of the show, we've rounded up our top five favourite home trends to embrace for 2015. From marble to rose gold, authentic wood to simple succulents, these trends are here to stay.
Marble Furniture
Marble has made a comeback once again, and the trend is more popular than ever. From classic white marble countertops to tabletops in every size, kitchen accessories, and birch-like coat racks, this timeless, muted material is sure to brighten up any room.
Gold has returned as the go-to metal for everything from fixtures to hardware, but its copper-toned cousin has been introduced to the home like never before, including kitchens, bedrooms, and dining areas. Sleek, sophisticated and bold, this metal screams trendsetter.
Organic, raw wood has never gone out of style, but mixing this authentic look with different materials and colours adds depth and dimension to an otherwise drab space. Pair with sleek, modern Eames chairs or a glass tabletop for an ultra-modern mix.
Succulents have been on the scene for a few seasons now, and they're not going anywhere. Popular for their effortless maintenance and simplicity, these plants will give any room an instant refresh, appearing brighter, cleaner, and modern.
HGTV's Carson Arthur, this year's Main Stage celebrity presenter, is all about bringing the indoors outside. Creating livable, relaxing outdoor spaces is his forte, as seen through his work on HGTV's Critical Listing. Furniture choice for your outdoor space is key to making the space feel like an extension of your home.

Cambria, Cleveland, Design Trends, GREAT BIG HOME AND GARDEN SHOW, I-X CENTER, Interior Design, Ohio, RAMSIN KHACHI, The Great Big Home and Garden Show, TRENDS No comments
We're thrilled to have nationally recognized design/build contractor and Canadian television personality, Ramsin Khachi, joining us at The Great Big Home + Garden Show. Ramsin is renowned for generating creative solutions to problems facing the modern-day client. This design expert helps others achieve timeless, elegant, and uniquely customized spaces. We caught up with Ramsin briefly before the show and asked for his take on today's design trends. Read on and his enjoy his interesting perspective.
Today we are continually bombarded with trends and fads driven by the media's recurrent pursuit of new content. It's a persistent process that can ultimately leave us questioning our investments and improvements in our homes. If I had to believe heavily in design trends, I'd say the hottest trend today is to not be trendy. The vast amount of design content available to us in the media and online has made us more confident as consumers and puts us more in touch with and makes us more proud of our personal tastes and styles. We're not afraid to make our spaces reflect our own personalities.
What I do strongly believe in is lifestyle trends. Our lifestyles have changed greatly in the past several decades. We lead busy lives, we travel more, we entertain differently, and the last thing we'd want is a home that takes up any of our most precious commodity: time. We want spaces that enhance our lifestyles - like separate mudrooms and laundry rooms, wine cellars, media rooms, useable garages, and innovative storage spaces. We look for products that work for us so that we don't find ourselves constantly working around an item's limitations. Products that can deliver performance like Cambria's non-staining and durable Quartz countertops, Schulter's superior shower waterproofing system, or Blum's ingenious cabinet hardware.
In the future, I look forward to builder's fulfilling our needs better and creating homes that meet our current and future demands. Homes that are better built, more conductive to current lifestyles, and homes that help us enjoy living our lives rather than creating more work for us.
Presented by Cambria, Ramsin Khachi will grace the Main Stage at The Great Big Home + Garden Show Friday, February 6th at 5pm and Saturday, February 7th at 2pm. Don't miss this design darling - get your tickets early to avoid box office lines and secure your spot at the show. Right now you can get 2-for-1 tickets on Facebook.

alh home renovations, DIY, KANSAS CITY, metropolitan lawn & garden show, REMODELING, renovating, Spring, TIPS, TRENDS No comments
Kansas City may be buried in snow right now, but spring is just a couple of months away, making it the perfect time to prepare your home. ALH Home Renovations, LCC will be exhibiting at the Metropolitan Lawn & Garden Show this weekend, Feb. 7-9, 2014, but first, check out a few of their tips to help you along. They also shared advice to aid in renovating, remodeling and selecting the right design professional for your job.
Tell us something unique about your product or business that we wouldn't know.
We pride ourselves on the ALH Process. More specifically, our proposals and customer service. Our itemized proposals are divided up into 28 different categories, ranging from excavating to painting to drywall. This is an educational tool as much as a proposal. The client will know the different parts and pieces that go into a remodeling project, and this attention to detail is carried over to the rest of the project. We are a national customer service award-winning design and remodeling company. We feel that a clear and continuous line of communication between ourselves and the client from initial meeting to completion of project is the key to a successful project.
What trends do you follow?
We do not believe in following trends. Trends come and go. We believe in tailoring our remodeling project to the individual wants and needs of our clients. Although we are aware of design trends, we do not force clients to adhere to them. We advise our clients to make their spaces into what they want, not what is trendy. Because, at the end of the day, our clients are the ones living in the space, not us.
What steps should people take to prepare their homes for spring?
Keep an eye on your roofs to be sure that the snow is melting evenly and location of icicles. A roof with melting or unevenly melting snow may be a sign of inadequate insulation in your attic. Secondly, if you are considering any remodeling or landscaping projects, plan them now while the weather is cold. Proper preparations prior to construction gives you more time to enjoy the finished project in the warmer weather.
What is the most important thing to keep in mind when renovating a room?
Make sure you have realistic expectations before starting anything, scope of work, timeline and budget. Consider features you must have, what you can do without and how they impact the bottom line. Also, have an understanding of what you want the finished project to be.
Before you consult a professional, have an understanding of a few things:
What is your design style?
Things you like and don't like?
How is the space currently being used?
How do you want it to be used?
Design professionals can assist you in making these decisions, but having an understanding of what you want prior to consulting a professional will help streamline the design phase of your project. Finally, make all design decision prior to construction. Living in a disturbed space can quickly become stressful, so knowing what is going where before construction helps the project to move quickly and minimize the disruption to your daily life.
Is there anything special that show attendees should look forward to at your booth?

black and white, Design, GRAY, HOME DECOR, HOME SHOW, MODERN, OUTDOOR LIVING, TREND, TRENDS No comments
1. Black & White
I've had my eye on this classic combination for some time now, and I'm very glad it was a trend in 2013.
Incorporated with solid colors, stripes, or other patterns, I noticed
this trend popping up in home offices, bedrooms, and dining rooms. Black
and white create a very dramatic effect, I've found this decor trend gives
spaces a very organized and well structured appearance.
2. Shades of Gray
Gray has quickly become one of the
post popular colors in home decor, particular in bedrooms and living
rooms. Regardless of the shade, gray has very soothing qualities that
bode very well with rest and relaxation. Gone are the days when entire
homes are painted taupe or cream; today, in 2013, it was all about shades of gray, and how
they can support almost every other color.
3. A Modern Approach to Lighting
In 2013, people were lighting it up in more unique ways! Once the walls are painted and the furniture
is chosen, many tend to think the house is complete...but what about the
lights? Lighting can add a lot of charm to a space; this charm should be
unique in every room. So whether it's a chandelier here, and a few
pendant lights there, don't be afraid to really explore the very unique options
that are now available.
4. Outdoor Living Spaces
I've always been a huge advocate of
stylish and comfortable outdoor living spaces. In 2013, backyards proved they were not just about swing sets and BBQs, they are about being spaces you can relax and
LIVE in. There are now entire living rooms, dining rooms, and
even television sets available at our home shows for the backyard. In 2013, people really embraced their yards, turning them
into second living/dining rooms.
5. Simple Centerpieces
You know that large flat surface you
sit at to eat dinner? Don't forget to decorate it! Even if you're not
entertaining, an easy decorative centerpiece is crucial to tying a
space together. On trend in 2013 were DIY centerpieces that were fairly simple. Whether
it's a bowl of green apples for color, a row of mason jars
with floating candles, or bouquet of daisies, dressing up
your table is both fun and important.
6. Wallpaper for Feature Walls
Remember the days when wallpaper was
almost a bad word? People used to shriek at the thought of using
wallpaper instead of paint. But in 2013, a combination of the two was all the rage! Think of wallpaper as art, it's great for adding a decor
element to any space. While there are still some scary patterns out
there, you'll find that wallpaper has become a lot more modern. With bold
patterns that are great for feature walls, I think everyone should pick a room
to incorporate this fabulous 2013 trend.
7. Words on Walls
In 2013, I found that people became
very passionate about self-improvement and incorporating this inspiration
in design. This interesting intersection is exactly why people are
putting quotes and words on their walls. I love this trend because it's a
great way to customize home decor. To me, words on walls are truly letting
your home speak for you.
8. Mixing the Old with the New
Mixing old items with new ones
in home decor provides a casual and functional aesthetic. In 2013, people were mixing
and matching old favorites with newer pieces, the space is always fresh and
up-to-date. Incorporating classic
furniture lines and peppering in new decor elements allows for less fussiness, and
very polished spaces.
9. Unisex Decor Themes
Believe it or not, a lot of men cared about home decor too in 2013! This
trend was big with a lot of younger couples and new homeowners at our home
shows. People are thinking unisex, decorating with fewer frills,
focusing on functionality, and using gender neutral colors. Darker woods,
minimalism, symmetry, and framed black and white personal photos are just some
ideas of how to make your space unisex.
10. Gallery Walls
With all the smartphones, Instagram
photos, and digital prints out there, gallery walls emerged as fantastically creative ways to display memories and personal style. Great
for creating eye-catching feature walls in dining rooms, living rooms, and home
offices, the trick to these is to lay them out ahead of time and play around with
your frames and shapes. There are even gallery wall templates available
on Pinterest that can help you with your planning. Of course, if you’re
not feeling the cluster-styled gallery, opt for my favorite, straight rows that
create a geometrical photo grid. Regardless of which approach you choose,
you'll finish with a wonderful conversation piece.
Do you have any you'd 2013 decor trends like to add?
